Dakotaland Partners with ICAP to Provide Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
Monday, December 12, 2011
Dakotaland Federal Credit Union and Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership (ICAP) have partnered to provide Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) services to income-eligible households in eastern South Dakota. The National Credit Union Administration has provided grant funding to Dakotaland FCU to support the VITA program. Certified ICAP staff and volunteers will prepare basic income tax returns for lower-income households (those with incomes up to $49,000) at no cost, and will file the return electronically with the IRS. Persons eligible to receive a refund through the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) will also be assisted with those applications. Other partners for the VITA program include Internal Revenue Service, Dakota State University- SIFE, and East River Federal Credit Union.
"We are excited to offer VITA services to eligible filers," said Arleen Weerheim, ICAP's Deputy Director. "The households do not pay any fees to have their returns prepared and filed, and the EITC can produce refunds into the thousands of dollars."
ICAP has Community Service Workers in each of the following counties; Clark, Deuel, Grant, Hamlin, Kingsbury, Lake, Lincoln, McCook, Miner, Moody and Turner. These individuals are qualified to take applications for the VITA program and will also be certified to file income taxes. For further information, contact your local Dakotaland branch in Madison at 256-6511, DeSmet at 854-5959 or call ICAP at 1-800-896-4106.
