Sunday, June 15, 2014

Dakotaland Federal Credit Union's expansion plans for a new facility in DeSmet are marching forward. A building site has been secured on the northeast corner property at the intersection of SD Highways 14 and 25. Construction bids are closed and the list of contractors has been identified. Ground breaking ceremonies took place on June 14th, 2014 during the town's Old Settler's Day celebration.

"We are anxious to finally see this building project underway", stated newly appointed Branch Manager, Kristopher Warne. "The community of DeSmet has made remarkable efforts to evolve and meet the needs of an expanding population. Dakotaland wants to be a part of that continued growth", added Warne. The estimated 2,500 sq. ft. facility will house both Dakotaland Federal Credit Union, as well as Dakotaland Community Insurance. The new building will be located across the street from their current facility and will include 7 offices, expanded parking, a drive through and an island for an ATM. The additional space will allow Dakotaland to also extend office rental opportunities to the general public.

Twelve area contractors will lend their expertise to the completion of this building project. General contractor, Holland Construction will lead the efforts along with Schubloom Construction, Johnson Sand & Gravel, McGillvrey Oil Heating & Cooling, Duane Levanen, Superior Insulating, Dakota Roofing, F&M Acoustical, Dynamic Drywall, Spilde Electric, Mike Bauer Masonry and Meyer Modernizing. Building materials will be supplied by Hamlin Building Center of Lake Norden, SD. Construction has begun and an early fall completion date is anticipated.

The DeSmet Branch initially opened in 2011 and joined the ranks of 8 other Dakotaland Federal Credit Union locations including Huron, Volga, Brookings, Madison, Redfield, Mitchell and Woonsocket. With 28,000 members and $260 million in assets, Dakotaland continues to be locally owned cooperative offering a full-line of financial services to its membership since 1935.
