Huron, South Dakota - February 25, 2019 Dakotaland Federal Credit Union recently honored 8 area youth with $8000 in College Scholarships for the 2019-20 school year. Each recipient submitted an application and an essay highlighting their thoughts on ‘financial freedom’ and what it means to them. Submissions were judged by a scholarship committee made up of 10 individuals. “I was very impressed with the applicants and the commitment to their communities. Whether it was extra-curricular activities, volunteer work or with the jobs they hold, our students are striving to make their communities a brighter place. All while making their education a priority. It strengthened my belief in the most important investment we can make is in our members, especially our youth”, stated Scholarship Committee Member and Branch Manager, Laura Heathcote of the Watertown Branch Office.
The following winners were each awarded $1000 to use toward their continued education. Emma Roling of Madison, SD will graduate from Chester Area High School and will be attending the University of Minnesota in Mankato, MN majoring in Maternal & Child Care Nurse. Aaron Linke of Woonsocket, SD previously graduated from Woonsocket High School and is currently attending South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD majoring in Agronomy and Animal Science. Allyson Boomsma of Wolsey, SD will graduate from Wolsey-Wessington High School and will be attending South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD majoring in Nursing. Bennett Osborn of Redfield, SD will graduate from Redfield High School and will be attending Century College in White Bear Lake, MN working toward an Associates of Arts degree. Madison Hetland of Mitchell, SD previously graduated from Mitchell High School and is currently attending Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD majoring in Elementary Education & Spanish. Ashley Robinson of Madison, SD previously graduated from Wolsey-Wessington High School and is currently attending Dakota State University in Madison, SD majoring in Nutrition & Dietetics and Biology. Matthew Katz of Huron, SD will graduate from Huron High School and will be attending South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Taylor Arneson of Madison, SD will graduate from Madison High School and will be attending South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD majoring in Human Development & Family Studies.
“The talent and passion we see in our young credit union members is an inspiration. We are delighted to see the accomplishments and goals these students have reached. Our scholarship and student loan programs will continue to be our commitment to these individuals and the generations to come”, added Credit Union President, Dan Cumbee.
